Android: Sued by Microsoft, not by Linux | ITworld

If it's some desperate cry for attention by somebody, I just wish those people would release their own sex tapes or something, rather than drag the Linux kernel into their sordid world,

Pensito Review » GOP House Judiciary Committee Votes to Put ‘In God We Trust’ on All 9,000 Federal Buildings – What Will That Cost?

Pensito Review » GOP House Judiciary Committee Votes to Put ‘In God We Trust’ on All 9,000 Federal Buildings – What Will That Cost?: "In 1782, the Founding Fathers chose as the motto for the United States, “E pluribus unum,” which means “Out of many, one.” In 1956, at the height of the Cold War, Congress passed a law making “In God we trust” the official motto, a move that was primarily meant as an insult to the godless communists who ran the Soviet Union"

New Civil War erupts, led by super rich, GOP Paul B. Farrell - MarketWatch

New Civil War erupts, led by super rich, GOP Paul B. Farrell - MarketWatch: "Yes, “there’s class warfare, all right,” warns Warren Buffett. “But it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.” Yes, the rich are making war against us. And yes, they are winning. Why? Because so many are fighting this new American Civil War between the rich and the rest."

Article: Sam Harris on God and Japan

Either God can do nothing to stop catastrophes like this, or he doesn't care to, or he doesn't exist. God is either impotent, evil, or imaginary. Take your pick, and choose wisely.

The only sense to make of tragedies like this is that terrible things can happen to perfectly innocent people. This understanding inspires compassion.

Religious faith, on the other hand, erodes compassion. Thoughts like, "this might be all part of God's plan," or "there are no accidents in life," or "everyone on some level gets what he or she deserves" – these ideas are not only stupid, they are extraordinarily callous. They are nothing more than a childish refusal to connect with the suffering of other human beings. It is time to grow up and let our hearts break at moments like this.

Sam Harris

Article: Badass Quote of the Day

"Reli gious fun da men tal ism is dan ger ous because it can not accept ambi gu i ty and diver si ty and is there fore inher ent ly intol er ant. Such intol er ance, in the name of virtue, is ruth less and uses polit i cal power to destroy what it can not con vert. It is dan ger ous, espe cial ly in Amer i ca, because it is anti-democratic and is sus pi cious of 'the other,' in what ev er form that 'other' might appear. To main tain itself, fun da men tal ism must always define 'the other' as deviant."

A Selection of Quotes from the Linguistic Genius of Christopher Hitchens « manicstreetpreacher

Ever since I discovered that my God-given male member was going to give me no peace, I decided to give it no rest in return.  Seems fair to me.

Faith is the surrender of the mind; it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other mammals. It's our need to believe, and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. Of all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated.Sent from Steve's iPad...

KRONOS - english - I am a nihilist because I still believe in truth - metafizyka - kultura - religia

religion's rational credibility can be rebuked without evoking modern science or nihilism: Democritus and Epicurus did so over two thousand years ago, using arguments that are still valid today, even if theists prefer to ignore them. But of course, the irrationality of religious belief has never impeded its flourishing; indeed, it is precisely what immunizes it against rational refutation, since religion is designed to satisfy psychological needs, not rational requirements.

"In a way, of course it has to end with the belief in the divine," says Hitchens, "because that is the origin of all dictatorship."

Libya: Obama's response to the Libyan crisis is shamefully inadequate. - By Christopher Hitchens - Slate Magazine
Our common speech contains numberless verbs with which to describe the infliction of violence or cruelty or brutality on others. It only really contains one common verb that describes the effect of violence or cruelty or brutality on those who, rather than suffering from it, inflict it. That verb is the verb to brutalize. A slaveholder visits servitude on his slaves, lashes them, degrades them, exploits them, and maltreats them. In the process, he himself becomes brutalized. This is a simple distinction to understand and an easy one to observe. In the recent past, idle usage has threatened to erode it. Last week was an especially bad one for those who think the difference worth preserving.
